Why Spring is a Great Time to Improve your Nutrition!
Spring follows our winter excesses; holidays, often heavier foods, heavier clothing – generally a more difficult existence due to our Canadian winter weather and perhaps a tendency to hibernate with Netflix.
Spring is a time for fresh local produce! Local farmers markets, fresh greens and vegetables make it a lot easier and more enticing to increase your nutritional intake quickly and deliciously! Fresh vegetables include so many nutrients – vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, as well as fiber that help us clean up our winter bodies. Everything we need is right here, and because it’s local produce there is less nutrient depletion during the travel time from field to fridge.
The extra light during the day in spring and the increase in sunshine help us feel better all around. This increased energy makes us want to move, spring clean and unclutter our lives and cook amazing healthy meals to further that good feeling. Maybe we’ll even think about planting a vegetable or herb garden?
Spring precedes summer of course and we want to be ready for what some people regard as the most glorious of seasons. Whether it is increasing your energy for summer sports and outings, shedding a few pounds, or dealing with a lingering health issue, spring is a time for renewed focus and new initiatives. Nutrition provides the building blocks of good health and relooking at what building blocks you are using each day can have a big impact on how you are feeling.
